ABC’s popular reality franchise is set to break new ground.

On February 13, after Bachelor contestant Rachel Lindsay was sent home by Nick Viall, the network confirmed that she will be featured as the next Bachelorette. Lindsay will be the first African-American to take on the lead role in the reality dating empire.

The Dallas lawyer, 31, charmed the network and fans alike with her brains and sense of humor on Viall’s season. After years of criticism about the lack of diversity on the show, Lindsay appeared to be a shoe-in for season 13.
