Simone Biles’ dominance in the gymnastics world had already earned her a reputation as unbeatable before she headed to Rio for the Olympic Games, and now the tiny gymnast with big heart has led her team to a gold medal.
The U.S. Women’s gymnastics team of Biles, Gabby Douglas, Ali Raisman, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian were favored to win the team all-around event, but even one slip-up could have cost them the title.
Going into the final event, floor exercise, the American team was leading by five points. Hernandez scored a solid 14.833, and Raisman followed with a15.366. Biles cemented the win with an impressive 15.800 to lead her team to the medal stand.
