Joely Fisher, half-sister to the late Carrie Fisher, has written a moving tribute to the Star Wars icon, who passed away in December after a massive heart attack.

“You all lost Princess Leia and Carrie Fisher; I lost my hero, my mentor, my mirror,” wrote Fisher, 49, in a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter. “During our transcontinental chat before Carrie’s fateful flight from London to L.A., we promised we’d spend Christmas together. It’s a promise we kept, although not in a way either of us had anticipated.”

Fisher was by her sister’s side in the hospital and has vowed to support her niece, Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd.
