Legendary producer and arranger George Martin, known for signing The Beatles when no one else would, has died at age 90. He leaves behind wife Judy Lockhart-Smith and four children.
As the man behind 23 No. 1 singles in the U.S., Martin was often referred to as the “Fifth Beatle.” He also served as the band’s arranger, and became known for his imaginative orchestral additions to “Yesterday” and “Eleanor Rigby,” two of the foursome’s most well-known songs.
Beatles drummer Ringo Starr spoke about Martin’s passing on Twitter, sharing the message, “Peace and love… George will be missed.”
