Girls star Lena Dunham was honored recently with the Blossom Award from the Endometriosis Foundation of America (EFA), founded by Padma Lakshmi. Dunham suffered a health crisis in March and was diagnosed with the painful disease, which causes the lining of the uterus to grow on the outside.

“Every single woman’s methods for getting better are different. So what works for one woman may absolutely not for another,” Dunham told the audience, adding that her career allowed her necessary healing time that many women don’t have access to. “It’s something many women will have to battle with for their whole reproductive lives.”

Dunham is now back to work filming and directing season 6 of the HBO drama.
