In her latest film project, To the Bone, Lily Collins plays the role of a woman suffering from a serious eating disorder. For Collins, the fictional character’s struggle hit close to home.

“This was definitely a more dramatic role for me. I suffered with eating disorders when I was a teenager as well,” Collins, 27, told reporters at the Sundance Film Festival, adding that the film required her to “emotionally revisit” her own struggles.

After speaking publicly about her own battle, Collins received an outpouring of support from fans. She later expressed her gratitude on Instagram, saying, “Thank you for all your love and support. I’m sending all of mine right back (especially today!) and remember, you are never ever alone…”
