At his first concert in New York in nearly two decades, Garth Brooks made certain to give his patented high energy, crowd-pleasing performance. However, the country legend also took time to address the recent outbreaks of racial violence plaguing the United States.

“We’ve got to love one another, that’s what it’s all about,” Brooks told an adoring crowd. He then held up a heart onstage as he played his pointed 2014 hit “People Loving People.”

“Let’s enjoy our differences and realize they are our strengths,” he finished before leaving the stage.
