Derek Hough is speaking out after protestors charged the stage during embattled swimmer Ryan Lochte’s September 12 performance. Hough attempted to quiet hecklers in the audience while security tackled and subdued two men who interrupted the live show.

You don’t bring that into our home,” pro dancer Hough, 31, said of his decision to intervene. “This is a positive place, it’s a loving place, it’s a place of learning, of triumph … and I got upset because I’m so sick of this world judging each other and condemning each other. There’s so much negativity.”

Hough said he supports Lochte’s participation in the show, calling the protestors “cowardly.”
