The May 22 Billboard Music Awards opened with an explosive performance by Britney Spears, who wowed the crowd with her signature high-energy dancing and hits like “Work Bitch,” “Breathe On Me,” “I’m a Slave 4 U” and “Toxic.”

Spears, who has had rocky performances in recent years, appeared confident and in control. Later in the show, she was honored with the coveted Billboard Millennium Award, which is given to artists who exhibit exceptional achievement and influence in the music industry. Spears has had 23 Top 40 hits over her career, including “Baby One More Time,” which rocketed her to fame and went platinum 14 times.
